This is one of the classic images of the psychedelic era, and unquestionably the most recognized Grateful Dead image.

The original/first printing of this poster was printed on vellum paper stock, and carries a "Bindweed Press, San Francisco" printing credit in the lower right portion of the poster.  Most originals show considerable wear, and many also regularly show the effects of over inking.  This poster is very difficult to find in top condition (not to mention expensive, at $5,000, or more).

The second authorized printing of this poster also carries the "Bindweed" credit, but it displays "26(2)" in the lower right portion of the poster. It was most likely printed very shortly after the shows, almost certainly by the end of 1966.

The third authorized printing of this poster was printed on an uncoated index stock.  The notation "26(3)" appears in the lower left corner.  This poster was most probably printed in 1967.

All of the authorized printings of FD-26 measure approx.  14 1/4" x 20" (the third printing poster is not quite as wide as the other two).

The original handbill for these shows was printed prior to the shows on thin paper stock, and measures approx.  8 1/2" x 11".

This poster is known to have been forged (unauthorized printings) on nine different occasions.  The two most common are a 1966 forgery that was printed by Ben Friedman of the Poster Mart (this printing does not have the "Bindweed" credit, and also eliminates a "Mouse! Studios-66" credit above the ticket outlet strip), and a 1970's forgery printed in England, which displays a "San Francisco Poster Co." printing credit.
